This year the Noosa Triathlon will be celebrating 25 years of the events history with a major revamp of the event . Hosted over four days from the 31st October to the 4th November, not only is there is the traditional triathlon on offer, there are heaps of additional activities and events you can get involved with. This is why they have promoted the annual event as the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival.
The festival is brought together with an irresistible mix of sport and entertainment coupled with, sun, sea and surf in one of Australia’s most popular destinations – Noosa.
It’s one of Australia’s most popular triathlons, drawing 5,500 athletes each year to the Olympic-distance (1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run) challenge that also lures our top professionals. In keeping with triathlon tradition it’s an out and back course – ensuring the best swim, bike, runner wins. This explains Craig Walton’s historic five Noosa titles, including the course record. He is one of the most revered non-drafting athletes over the past decade. Or three time world and Noosa champion Emma Snowsill’s dominance of the event in recent years.
If you think it’s all about triathlon, you’d be absolutely wrong. There’s a weeklong festival of swimming, cycling, running, triathlon events for everyone from 7 – 70+, two golf tournaments (celebrity and corporate), Queensland’s largest expo, corporate/VIP facilities, a Miss and Mr Noosa Model Search and serious after Party you’ll also need to train for. Supporting events on the program include: Eyeline 1000 Ocean swim – past winners include Grant Hackett and Kieren Perkins. Asics 5km Bolt– past winners include Sonia O’Sullivan and Craig Mottram, Ridleys Noosa Crit – featuring the likes of TDF riders Robbie McEwen and Cadel Evans, with AUD$50,000 first past the post and a further $10,000 in primes.
So if you are in Brisbane or near the Sunshine Coast for this weekend it is well worth the trip.
